Seniors4Kids
A civic engagement initiative led by older adults
who care about young children.
Intergenerational Strategies is seeking age 50+ New Yorkers who understand the importance of high quality Pre-Kindergarten programs in early childhood education and want to get involved with other older adults to organize efforts to educate the public and policymakers about Seniors4Kids and high quality Pre-Kindergarten.
Children need highly-qualified teachers, effective curriculum and policies, and expanded opportunities. You can use your talents and skills to make a difference in the lives of New York's children.
For the past two years, Generations United has successfully operated the Seniors4Kids program in Florida and Ohio mobilizing the older adult voice on behalf of these important issues. It is now being launched in New York State.
Older adults (age 50+) are needed to become Lead Captains and Captains as part of
Seniors4Kids
- Lead Captains assist in the recruitment of Captains to be team members. They enjoy working with others to achieve a social betterment – high quality Pre-Kindergarten programs for our children. Captains probably have had past experiences as leaders of events and activities at their house of worship, in a union, with AARP, with a fraternal organization, PTA, etc.
- Lead Captains are trained, receive informational materials and ongoing support for their activities.
- Lead Captains and Captains educate the public and legislators through letter writing, visits, and letters to the editor about Seniors4Kids and the importance older adults place on high quality Pre
Kindergarten and early education. They also plan and organize special events.
