Intergenerational Strategies’ vision is a Long Island that values all generations. It believes that young and older people have common, basic human needs: To be intellectually stimulated; to develop self esteem; to maintain links between the past and future; to feel purposeful; to enjoy meaningful relationships; to have a sense of place in relation to the rest of society; and to feel competent, worthwhile, and affirmed.

The time has come for advocates to work together to build an intergenerational agenda. We believe:

• Intergenerational collaboration will unite and improve our communities.

• Every person, younger and older, is a resource and adds value.

• Public policy should meet the needs of all generations.

• Resources are more wisely used when they connect the generations rather than separate them.

• Discrimination in any form limits a person’s potential to contribute to the development of their community.
